retrieved: to recover or bring or get back.

example: I dashed back to retrieve my umbrella from my locker after I looked out the window and saw it was raining.

fruitless: an action that turns out to be useless.

example:  Because I share my bedroom with my messy sister, it is fruitless for me to try to keep the room neat.

lumbered: moving with clumsy,  heavy plodding steps.

example:  Ben lumbered to the car because he was carrying so many packages and couldn’t see where he was stepping.
