fumble:  to reach for something or try to do something and not do it.

example:  I tried to pronounce caveat when I read the sentence but fumbled over it and it sounded more like cave-at.

utter: to say something

example: During rest hour you are not suppose to utter a single sound.

potential: a quality a person has that if worked on can improve a great deal.

example:  She has the potential to be a great singer, all she has to do is work hard at her singing lessons.
