debate: to discuss a topic where there may be different points of view and try to convince others of your opinion.
Example: My family debated for hours because everyone had a different opinion about where we should spend our summer vacation. Guess who won the debate? Me!
Remote: out of the way or in the distant future, not important in the moment.
Example: Although going to college seems remote, my parents insisted I study hard so that I could get into a good school.
Respected: held in high regard.
Example: No matter what we thought about a teacher, we were taught to respect all grown-ups.
neglected: to not pay attention to, or to ignore.
Example: My parents told me that my tomato plant died because I neglected to water it every day.
